Tantrum is an independent theatre company based in Newcastle, Australia. In addition to their annual season of productions, Tantrum hold workshops for students and regional schools all year. As art director and designer for Tantrum, I am responsible for developing a visual narrative for each season and ensuring that artwork, brochures and other marketing material have a consistent and high-quality look. Tantrum rely heavily on community support so effective and engaging visual communication is essential for their survival.
In 2010 I produced a series of bright, wild and experimental designs, drawing from punk, Dada and surrealism. One of the great challenges of this project was to produce family friendly work with an ‘edge’, and to illustrate for performances which are still unwritten and previously unperformed. These images are intended to shock and delight in equal measure.
